The supply and planting of date palms is a technical process that involves selecting mature (preferably 3-5 years old) and pest-free offshoots, preparing planting pits with a mixture of sand, silt, and well-rotted organic compost, ensuring the appropriate depth, providing intensive irrigation initially, and offering shade to protect them from direct sunlight. This process ensures a high success rate exceeding 90%. Steps for Supplying and Planting Date Palms: Selecting Offshoots (Supply): Select mature offshoots (weighing 30-50 kg and measuring 30-50 cm in diameter) with a strong root system and free from diseases (such as the red palm weevil). It is preferable to supply them in the spring or autumn. Preparing the Land and Digging the Pits: Dig pits of suitable dimensions (approximately 111 cm) and widen them to accommodate the size of the offshoots. Preparing the Soil: Mix the excavated soil with well-rotted organic compost and appropriate amounts of superphosphate and sulfur to ensure nutrition and sterilization. Planting: Prune the offshoot's fronds and tie them to reduce transpiration. Dip the roots in a fungicide solution. Place the offshoot in the hole at the same depth as before (the soil should not cover the heart of the offshoot). Backfill the hole with soil and firm it down to secure it. Watering and Shading: Water immediately after planting, and continue watering daily for the first week, then regularly thereafter. Use burlap sacks to protect the young offshoots from direct sunlight for 3-6 months. Tips for Successful Planting: Timing: Spring (March-April) and Autumn (September-October) are the best times for planting. Spaces: Plant palms at intervals of 77, 88, or 10 x 10 meters, depending on the variety and soil type. Drip Irrigation: This is the best method for planting palms to ensure continuous moisture and prevent rot.
